Questions about learning English
How can my child learn spoken English at home?
Pick one short scene a day with your child. In Shinar they first hear it in Tamil so they know what is happening, then the same conversation in English, then tap each English word to hear it and see its Tamil meaning. The scenes are about things children already do: getting ready for school, the van, tuition and playing with friends.
Do I need to know grammar first?
No. Shinar teaches English the way people pick up a language: by hearing it used in situations they already understand. Grammar becomes familiar from the patterns you hear again and again.
Is it free?
12 scenes are free, with no ads. Shinar Pro unlocks all 30 and every new scene pack.
What age is the kids course for?
The scenes are written around the daily life of children of about 8 to 10 in Chennai. Shinar itself is a general-audience app, so we recommend a parent sets it up and listens along.
Where can I download Shinar?
Shinar is coming soon to Google Play for Android phones. An iPhone version will follow.
